Subject: [socadmin] Members of The Urantia Book Fellowship Needed to Petition to Place “Survey of Members-at-Large” on the Next General Council Meeting Agenda
Dear Urantia Book Fellowship Members,
FELLOWSHIP BY-LAWS:
Please note the following two paragraphs extracted from the current By-Laws of The Urantia Book Fellowship:
CHAPTER I Records of Membership
Paragraph 1.3. Record of Members-at-Large: The Secretary of THE URANTIA BOOK FELLOWSHIP shall keep and maintain a record of each member-at-large of THE URANTIA BOOK FELLOWSHIP, which record shall contain the member's name and address and such other information as may be required by the Executive Committee.
CHAPTER IV The General Council
Paragraph 4.3. Petitions to the General Council: Only those petitions to the General Council which have been adopted by majority vote with a quorum present in a proper business meeting of a Local Society or signed by twelve (12) or more members in good standing of THE URANTIA BOOK FELLOWSHIP will be considered by the General Council. …
PETITION to the GENERAL COUNCIL:
“The members of The Urantia Book Fellowship who “Reply All” to this email thread or in any other manner properly sign and support this petition are hereby calling for the agenda item: “Survey of Members-at-Large” to be placed on the official Agenda of the very next General Council meeting. The purpose of this Survey would be to compile an accurate list and an accurate count of the Member-at-Large group within the Fellowship. This petition is calling both for the proper recordkeeping to be re-established and for the Survey process to achieve that objective to be started as soon as possible.”
RATIONALE:
This long-ignored, missing information is required by the By-Laws to have been collected all along. Accurate records of Members-at-Large is essential for maintaining transparency and integrity in Fellowship membership reporting since using membership counts without a genuine record existing undermines the Fellowship’s credibility.
Many of you were copied on the distribution of “Resolution F” from First Society to the TDA 2024 regarding this same Survey topic; however, the TDA 2024 will not reconvene until after the next General Council meeting on 9/14/2024. That would mean that when the TDA next meets and approves Resolution F, it would probably not even come to the General Council until the subsequent quarterly meeting following that.
Therefore, circulating this petition is simply intended to move the process along, rather than having the start of the Survey delayed for several more months. When this petition is successful in the next few days, it will simply make any consideration of Resolution F by the TDA 2024 a moot point and one less item needing to be discussed and voted upon by the TDA.
PLEASE SIGN BY “REPLY ALL” and STATE THREE ITEMS OF INFORMATION:
To “sign” and support this petition, please “Reply All” to this email and state three informational items in your reply:
1) Your name
2) The fact that you are a member in good standing
3) The fact of your support for this petition calling for a General Council agenda item: “Survey of Members-at-Large”
Please “sign” this petition, even if you note that twelve or more have also already signed it. The more Fellowship members that support this petition, the sooner the process will start. Thank you.
In God’s Love and Service Together,
signed/ Ken Keyser (on behalf of myself)
