Re: [societyofficers] Unique Opportunity to Resurrect the Sadler Jr Recordings Larry Bowman 03 Mar 2023 09:46 MST

Stephen, I remember it was at IC11 in Salt Lake City that Tom Allen introduced you as “Bill Sadler,” and you appeared on stage doing one of his tapes. You were not identified by your own name. That’s when I first became acquainted with you.

By the way, I don’t think I am out of line by mentioning that I became acquainted with Bill’s grandson, another Dr. Sadler: Thomas R. Sadler, PhD, an economics professor at Western Illinois University. This was on the weekend of Feb. 11 last month, when First Society sponsored the 100th anniversary of the first meeting of the Forum. Tom shared his memories of growing up visiting his grandmother, Leone Sadler, at 533 while with his dad, Chuck. And incidentally, his dad was also a Dr. Sadler: Charles G. Sadler, a history professor at WIU. Chuck was a year younger than I, and I only knew him slightly, as he did not attend the Forum meetings and, later, the First Society—although he did share in the readings at First Society’s Aug. 21 observances in 1963 and ’64.

So, Tom is a 4th-generation Sadler reader of the Urantia Book. Hopefully, recordings of the Feb. 11 presentations will be available soon for those who missed the event.

PS: To clarify, Bill Sadler (William, Jr.) was not a doctor. Tom is great-grandson to the “original” Doctor Sadlers: William and Lena.
